Two individuals from Iowa sustained severe injuries in a rollover accident near the Missouri border when their SUV skidded off a snow-covered highway.
Law enforcement officials responded to a single-vehicle collision at around 5:50 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 14. The incident occurred near Highway 275 and Route CC, located just south of the Iowa state line, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
When the first responders arrived at the scene, they discovered a 54-year-old man from Hamburg, Iowa, who had been driving a black 1998 Toyota 4-Runner north on the highway. The vehicle started skidding on the snowy road.
According to State Troopers, the SUV veered off the north side of the highway, colliding with a fence, and subsequently flipping over in a nearby field. The 4-Runner ended up on its top, but fortunately, both the driver and a 49-year-old female passenger from Hamburg were successfully rescued.
Emergency crews reported that the passenger was transported to Grape Community Hospital in Hamburg with life-threatening injuries, while the driver was also taken to the same hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
According to investigators, both individuals were wearing their seatbelts during the crash, ensuring their safety. Although the SUV sustained significant damage, it was not completely totaled. At this time, no additional details have been provided.
