Tucson Middle School Student-Athlete, Sophia Alessandra, 14, tragically passes away from a Fentanyl overdose, leaving Her Parents Behind

Sophia Alessandra Urquilla, a student in the eighth grade at a middle school in Tucson, sadly lost her life due to a drug overdose.

She possessed an optimistic outlook on life, always eager to explore new things and embark on exciting adventures. Not only was she academically gifted, but she also excelled in sports and had a passion for gaming.

Uquilla was a big fan of Spider-Man and Hello Kitty, and she also had a love for Anime. In addition to these interests, she had a special affection for her pet cats – Moco, Chunky, Bambino, and Dexter.

With a self-taught guitar skills and a laid-back attitude, she mastered the art of playing the instrument.

Sophia Alessandra Urquilla’s Autopsy Suggests That She Died Of Fentanyl Toxicity

On January 30, 2025, Sophia Alessandra Urquilla tragically passed away at the age of 14. Her life was cut short due to a drug overdose.

Sophia’s cause of death, as revealed in the autopsy report, was determined to be fentanyl toxicity. The report concluded that her passing was accidental.

The Tucson Unified School District provided counseling to Sophia’s classmates and paid a heartfelt tribute to her, expressing,

“Tucson Unified School District and the Mansfeld Middle School administrations are deeply saddened by the passing of one of our student,” “We urge everyone to be respectful of the family during this incredibly difficult time and to remember the tragedy they are experiencing. Tucson Unified is committed to supporting our students and staff and is providing counseling services to help them cope with the loss of their classmate and student while we continue to fully cooperate with any law enforcement investigation.”

Mary Coleman, a news anchor at 13 News, recently shared a post from KOLD News 13 regarding the tragic death of Sophia. In her post, she expressed her condolences and shared the news with her followers.

Sophia’s family has received support and encouragement from their close ones and relatives to stay strong during this challenging time.

Sophia’s visitation is scheduled to take place on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Funeraria del Angel Catalina located at 3435 N First Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85719.

The graveside service will take place from 3 to 3:30 p.m. on Friday at Evergreen Mortuary, Cemetery and Crematory in Tucson, Arizona. The address is 3015 North Oracle Road, Tucson, AZ 85705.

Tucson Middle School’s Sophia’s Parents Are Mourning The Loss Of Their Daughter

Sophia Alessandra Urquilla, 14, came into this world on December 6, 2010, as the beloved daughter of Manuel and Sindy Urquilla.

Limited information is available about her parents’ personal life as they have chosen to avoid social media.

Sindy and Manuel are heartbroken over the sudden loss of their daughter Sophia. In their official statement, they expressed their grief by sharing Sophia’s obituary, which reads,

“She was a loving child, a wonderful sister to Angel, and a great friend to many,” “She was an optimist, curious and adventurous, a bright student, an athlete, and a gamer. She was sassy, had sarcastic humor, and great comebacks. She had a big heart and loved everyone in her life unconditionally. Those that had an opportunity to meet Sophia know that she was a beautiful wonderful, lovely young girl who’s departed too soon.”

Sophia had a deep connection with her late grandmother, Rosa Moreno.

She grew up with her cousin, Alexander Salaza Acevedo, who was born on July 21, 2002, to his mother, Iris Acevedo. Unfortunately, Alexander passed away on February 23, 2023, at the age of 20, as a result of a car accident.

His brother Oscar, grandparents Abel and Berta, uncle Abel G Herrera, and aunt Karen Herrera are the ones who survive him.

The crash took place on the evening of February 21, 2023, at approximately 9:45 p.m. near the intersection of South Park Avenue and East Benson Highway, according to officials.

Officers reported that there was a collision between a white 2019 Ford F-35 and a silver 2013 Mercedes-Benz CLS 550.

The detectives stated that the Ford F-350 was heading south on North Park Avenue and was trying to turn left onto East Benson Highway when it collided with the Mercedes-Benz.

A visitation took place on Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Funeraria del Angel University located at 7 East University Blvd, Tucson, AZ 75705.

The graveside service took place on March 3rd at Evergreen Cemetery, located at 3015 N Oracle Rd, Tucson.

Sophia has been reunited in paradise with her grandmother Rosa and cousin Alexander.
