HAMPSTEAD – In light of then Library Director Debra Hiett’s resignation in April and Trustee Chair Gwen Glick’s resignation this month, the Library Trustees reorganized last week.
The two remaining trustees, Natalie Gallo and Al Cipriano, both relatively new to the board, asked alternate Emily Reschberger, a former longtime trustee, to run the meeting and the reorganization May 20.
In Glick’s letter of resignation, she apologized for her departure but is moving out of the area May 28. She said she resigned so the trustees could continue with interviews for Library Director candidates.
Alternates Bob O’Brien and Charlene Flaherty said they wished to continue in that capacity. Cipriano nominated Gallo for chairwoman and she was unanimously elected. The trustees then voted to reinstate Reschberger as a full trustee. Reschberger was unanimously approved as treasurer.
Gallo said a dozen candidates had applied for the director position and the number had been reduced to three finalists. She said she planned to send a letter immediately to all the candidates apologizing for the delay in the process and to notify them that interviews would be conducted Thursday and Friday, May 28 and 29. Prior to that the Trustees planned to meet with interim director Merrily Samuels and the staff to affirm the characteristics and criteria they envision for the director’s position.
In other business:
• Samuels said the meeting room and a study room upstairs had been painted and the hope was that another study room and eventually the trustee meeting room would be repainted. The rooms have not been painted since 2004. Samuels said the library maintenance personnel took care of the painting and the cost was absorbed by the money set aside to hire another maintenance person, something that has not happened.
• The trustees agreed to replace the upstairs copy machine, which is used by both the public and staff. Money is available to address this need. The decision was made to look into a color copier and return to the trustees with information about cost.
• An alternate position is now open on the board, and anyone interested in serving is asked to contact the main desk.
