CHESTER – The background work to put on Town Fair is well on its way, as the recreation commission works with other town volunteers to put on another successful event.
Town Fair is set for Saturday, Sept. 6, and promises many of the events that have been popular in the past, as well as new offerings. To help make sure the day runs smoothly, the Chester Town Fair Committee is looking for participants and volunteers alike.
Planned are the old-fashioned games that were so popular last year, from the tug of wars to the wife carry and a bunch of field games for the kids, including wheelbarrow and three-legged races.
The agricultural commission plans to have its chicken judging contest and cow plop bingo once again as well.
Road agent Mike Oleson is bringing equipment for the kids to see and touch, the fire department will have its smokehouse, the Fire Association is bringing a fire truck bouncy house, the Wason Pond Pounder folks will have a Mini Pounder, and there will be music, a parade and fireworks to finish off the day. And there will be both new and returning food vendors, crafters, artisans, groups and businesses at booths around the field.
The Town Fair Committee is looking for vendors, from food sellers to crafters, who want to rent a space for the afternoon. They’re also looking for farms to be part of a small farmers’ market. And for anyone who wants to take part in the parade, there’s always room for more, from local groups to antique car drivers.
Sponsors are encouraged to step forward as well. Free booth space goes to those who help out with $500 or more.
To get involved or to rent a space, all of the information and registration forms are available at recreation’s page at www.ches-ternh.org.
The committee is also looking to make a success of a new idea, Chester’s Got Talent. Anyone with a talent, from singing or playing music to a magic act, stand up or anything else they do particularly well, is invited to participate. It’s an all ages event and each performer will have a couple minutes to showcase his or her skills. More information is available on the above website.
Chester’s Got Talent will take place after the vendors pack up, and before the band begins playing prior to the annual fireworks. The band set for the night plays a variety of songs and styles and is geared for all ages. Fireworks are planned for 9 p.m.
Much more will be going on throughout the day and to make sure it all goes off without a hitch, volunteers are always welcomed. For more information or to help out, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
