HAMPSTEAD – The School Board was charged with spending the next weeks deciding what their goals are going forward, how they will align with the Strategic Plan, and how that Strategic Plan will be produced.
Assistant Superintendent Roxanne Wilson proposed a process at the Tuesday, April 22 meeting for developing the Strategic Plan that asked the board to make specific choices. She asked the board whether it wants a comprehensive planning process to be initiated or whether instead a revision of the 2008-2013 Strategic Plan would work. She also asked the board to decide whether it wished to hire a consultant for the process.
The board decided to consider consultants and asked Wilson to have them meet with the board at its May 27 meeting. The board also asked Wilson to collect data from administration, staff and faculty regarding what was met in the 2008-2013 Strategic Plan and what was not.
No decision was made on the extent of the Strategic Plan process, but the board took a conservative approach, and Superintendent Earl Metzler cautioned them not to go too far if they planned to use a consultant, who might take them in a different direction.
A subcommittee including board members Jason Cipriano and Jaye Dimando will be set up. The Strategic Plan Executive Summary would be written over the next six months, followed by administrators developing operational and action plans for implementation.

• Food Service price increases will not take place until next year. The proposed increase of Central School lunches is from $2.50 to $2.65, and middle school lunches from $2.75 to $2.85, and will ensure that the district is in compliance with the federal paid lunch equity requirement as well as to offset any increase in operating costs.
• The last day of school for Hampstead students will be June 19. The Blizzard Bag initiative saved two days.
• The default budget will be treated as a bottom line budget, and the decision has been made to grant a 2.5 percent raise for the 11 non-union employees, with merit pool awards as needed.
