HAMPSTEAD – The Hampstead Middle School Cheerleading team members are the back-to-back winners of the Tri-School and State Cheerleading competitions.
The team won the 2014 Division 3 Tri-County Cheerleading Championship in competition with eight other teams, then went on to compete and win in the B division (intermediate level) at the Middle School State Championship against 14 teams.
“We also won this Division last year, so we were defending champs,” said coach Katy Cummings. “We also won Tri County last year as well, so we are now back-to-back middle school Tri-County and New Hampshire State Champions.”
Members of the team include: eighth grade captains Kailey Kirker, Skyla Gusoski and Julia Mastorakos; seventh graders Leah Sears, Lexi Gridley, Emma Snowdon, Jacie Harlow, Madeline Burke; sixth graders Madison Cresta, Lexi Giannopoulos, Julie Giannopoulos, Hunter Mullane, Olivia Fruhbeis, Ashleigh Ahern, Maggie Pond; and fifth graders Emilee Evans, Ryan Scala, Mary McCarthy and Erin Porter. The team is coached by Cummings, an HMS fifth grade teacher, with HMS fifth grade teacher Kate Couture as her assistant.
Cummings said two of her cheerleaders who are now in high school – Victoria Williams and Alyssa Lalmond – helped out this season.
