SANDOWN – “The Madman Chronicles” is playing next week at the Edward Garvey Recreation Building.
It’s a homegrown thriller that has had great reviews from local people for the story, acting and recognizable setting.
The show starts at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11. The movie is the brainchild of former Sandown resident Shawn Allen, who now lives in Derry. It’s a fictional documentary that tells the tale of the New Hampshire State Police’s search for “the Video Killer,” from documentary style interviews with police officers to point-of-view footage of the Madman’s serial murders.
The slasher drama aims to keep people on the edge of their seats. Search Youtube for a trailer.
Earlier in the year Allen and actor/producer Sheryl Norton were looking to hold a screening in town hall, but that fell through. With the help of the recreation commission’s Ron Dulong and recreation director Deb Brown, they have secured the recreation building for the show.
The movie was previously shown at Chunky’s Cinema. That show sold out quickly and according to Allen the reviews were very good. Even the anonymous ones searching for input on how to improve the film were positive. It was even nominated for Best Film, Best Director and Best Actor at the Jersey Gore Film Festival this year.
Since that showing the film has been changed a bit, and Allen said it is improved.
He edited, added and removed scenes, and said he is more proud of the finished project now.
Sandown plays a big part in the movie, from scenes to local actors, and seeing the town in the show has been very positive for moviegoers.
“I hope a lot of the town shows up. I think they’d be surprised to see their town in it,” said Allen, adding that the locales added to the realism and made viewers feel a part of the show.
Actors and Allen will be at the showing to meet and answer questions about the film.
Because of the ‘R’ rating, those attending must be 18 or older or accompanied by a parent to get in. Soda and popcorn will be for sale.
The admission cost is $2, with all proceeds going to the Sandown Food Pantry.
All are welcome to attend. The Edward Garvey Recreation Facility is located off Main Street at 25 Pheasant Run Drive.
