HAMPSTEAD – Police Chief Joe Beaudoin expressed his thanks to Fire Chief Michael Carrier for the fire department’s cooperation in the April 27 Prescription Drug Take-Back event, and called the event an unqualified success.
Many residents dropped by the Fire Department to leave unwanted or expired prescription drugs in boxes placed at the front of the fire station for that purpose. “I was really surprised by how much we took back,” he said.
While he didn’t have the total amount, he said it was equal to or more than had been accepted for disposal in the September take-back. New Hampshire collected almost 6,000 pounds of expired or unwanted drugs in the April event. Hampstead was one of 70 communities participating in the Prescription Drug Take-Back effort.
The National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
