February marks Heart Health Awareness Month, and Hampstead Academy students, in an effort to raise awareness of heart health among students and to contribute to the American Heart Association’s research into the battle against cardiovascular disease, participated in a fun filled, educational, and fundraising week of “Hoops for Heart!” The kids played basketball and raised funds for the American Heart Association.
Upper School students formed the “Hoops for Heart” Club, where they learned about promoting heart health and then created lesson plans for their schoolmates. The club members taught their lessons during physical education class. Additionally, all week the students promoted heart health awareness through activities such as a “Nail and Face Painting” fundraiser, a bake sale featuring heart healthy snacks, a “Special Hat Day” fundraiser, a “PJ Day” fundraiser, and a “Be a Super Hero” fundraiser. The students raised over $1,000 for the American Heart Association while simultaneously raising awareness about the importance of heart health.
