Joseph A. Gauthier, 96, formerly of Hampstead, died surrounded by his family on Feb. 20, 2013 at the Nevins Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Methuen, Mass., following a period of declining health. He was born Feb. 13, 1917 in Lauriville, Quebec, Canada, the only son of Alfred Gauthier and Laurilda (Goulet) (Gauthier) Raymond. Mr. Gauthier was a U.S. Army World War II veteran.
He was a truck driver for over 30 years without having an accident, and a member of the New England Teamsters.
He enjoyed playing Bingo and 45’s, and he was an avid Boston Red Sox fan. Mr. Gauthier was the Boston Post Cane Holder for the Town of Hampstead.
He is survived by his son, Robert A. Gauthier, and his longtime partner, Kelly Cooke, of Houston, Texas; his daughter, Linda Ross, and her husband, Jim, of Hampstead; one grandson, Neill Ross and his wife, Beth; one great grandson, Dylan Ross; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased in 2009 by his wife of 69 years, Juliette R. (Gaudette) Gauthier.
There are no calling hours. Following cremation, a committal service will be held at a later date in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Nevins Resident Activity Fund, 10 Ingalls Court, Methuen, Mass. 01844.
